Kilclief
proved too strong for a battling Darragh Cross in this Harp Lager IFC clash last
Tuesday night. The winners were always in control and two early goals gave them
the platform for victory. Darragh were always in a catch-up position. and their
plight was made all the harder when goalkeeper Michael McMahon was sent off in
the second half.
For Kilclief Paul Watterson was sound
at full back while the half back line of Liam Woods, Kieran Polly and Martin Craig
was in control throughout. Matthew Johnston and Rory Sharvin controlled midfield,
despite the best efforts of Tom McMahon and John McCarthy. The Kilclief attack
possessed much more power and accuracy with Andrew Fitzsimons, Barry and Kieran
Sloan and Darren Swail most prominent.
Fought Darragh fought
hard throughout. Patrick, Fintan and Eugene Murray and Pat McMahon worked overtime
in defence while Gerard Marks, Gareth McGovern and Henry Conaghan were best in
attack. Kilclief never looked back after those goals from Kieran Sloan and Rory
Sharvin whose lob went over the 'keeper's head and into the net Three points from
Kieran Sloan and two from Andrew Fitzsimons saw Kilclief lead by 2-6 to 0-1 after
twenty minutes.
Gerard Marks scored the Darragh point.
Tom McMahon managed to find the back of the net for Darragh, but Kilclief led
by 2-8 to 1-1 at half time. Kilclief continued to dominate in the third quarter
with points coming from Liam Woods, Kieran Sloan, Martin Craig, Darren Swail,
Matthew Johnston and Barry Sloan. Darragh came back in the final quarter with
three points from Gary Kennedy and one each from Gareth McGovern and Gerard Marks,
but Kilclief were convincing winners.
