Kilcoo's
pace and slick movement to much for Carryduff - 19/02/03
East
Down Minor League, Section A
Sunday 16th Feburary Carryduff 2-02 Kilcoo 2-13
By Seamus O'Hanlon, Kilcoo
Pace, slick movement and better finishing
was the recipe for this Kilcoo win over a resilient
Carryduff. Yet had the finishing by both sides been
cleaner we could have had a harder fought match. As
it was two goals in the space of a minute from Conor
Laverty, just before half time, all but finished the
game as a contest.
It was Lavertys 2-07 that was the
backbone to the magpies win and it was he who had
the visitors 0-4 to 0-1 up after 10 minutes. Carryduff
began to come in to the match more at this point and
but for some wayward shooting they could have been
level going in to the second quarter. However points
from P. Kane, A. McEvoy, C. McEvoy and those two Laverty
goals, one from the penalty spot, sent Kilcoo in to
the break leading 2-7 to 0-1.
The second half began just as the
first with points from Laverty and Gary Morgan. However
10 minutes in the half Carryduff gave themselves hope
when they netted from 14 yards, but further points
from A. McEvoy, Rory Devlin and Conor Laverty restored
order for the magpies and while Carryduff got a second
goal late on there was only going to be one winner.
