• The seniors travelled to
Mayobridge at the weekend as they
tried to get back to winning ways.
In a game that was riddled with
frees the lads put on a second half
performance to get a draw and to
help build a little confidence.
They wouldn’t have been too
pleased with their first half display.
Despite playing some decent football
it took them 18 minutes before Conor
Laverty got them on the scoreboard.
It took a further 10 minutes before
Laverty pointed a free and 2 minutes
in to added time Martin Johnston
pointed a free to leave the half
time score 0-3 to 0-6.In the second
half however they began to turn
the screw on Mayo bridge at the
back Niall and Gerard McIvor, Sean
O’Hanlon and Gary O’Hare
were all mopping up anything the
bridge could throw at them while
up front the bridge could only revert
to giving away frees. Their inability
to cope with the pace and skill
of Gary McIvor and Connor Laverty
meant the Martin Johnston was picking
the scores of with his superb free
taking. The magpies dominated the
second half in terms of possession
and play but just when they got
their noses in front a lapse in
concentration allowed the bridge
to score a goal and they had to
dig deep. However the lads were
more than up for the challenge and
produced a determined last five
minutes to earn a draw and but for
the constant bridge fouling could
have had more. Overall this was
a much improved performance the
displays of Niall McEvoy and Sean
O’Hanlon in defence were outstanding,
at midfield Sean Micheal Devlin
and Martin McClean more than held
their own while up front had Conor
and Gary been allowed to run at
the bridge defence they could have
caused more damage. However it was
the boot of Martin Johnstone that
was the clinching factor in this
match and it looked like no position
was impossible for him.
• The seconds looked to have
regained their form following an
easy 3-19 to 1-7 win over arch rivals
Liatriom on Sunday. This match was
all but over by half time, as they
went in with a 9 point lead helped
by goals from Noel Devlin and Pearse
McEvoy. In the second half they
hammered home their advantage picking
of their points with ease and a
further goal from Damian Grant gave
them a comfortable win. This was
a very impressive display and with
good performances from Niall Morgan,
Gary O’Hare in defence Damian
Grant, who top score with 1-6, at
midfield and Pearse McEvoy, Rory
Devlin and Noel Devlin, who score
1-4, up front.
• Following last weeks disappointing
display against Kilclief the lads
had a point to prove to themselves
and despite losing they certainly
did that. Up against an Annaclone
side fielding a number of their
senior team members they put up
a very dogged and determined performance.
In fact for the first 20 minutes
of this match they were leading
and only trailed by a single point
at half time. In the second half
Annaclone picked up the pace and
while the lads continued to fight
for every ball on the day they were
beaten by a better team on a score
line of 0-7 to 3-14.
• The minors were involved
in the B Championship during the
week when they took on Loughinisland.
Despite playing some good football
at times they just missed out by
3 points.
• The under 14’s were
up against Kilclief in the championship
this week. This was a game was played
in some terrible weather conditions
but despite that they produced a
good display of football and had
a comfortable win.
