The Magpies Notes - 7th June 2004

Yet again this week the club continued to show their true pedigree on the pitch with wins for the seniors over Warrenpoint, the seconds and thirds also picked up wins while at underage level the Minors had a win over Teconnaught the under 16s produced their best result to date, the U14s and the U12s had good wins and the U10s were participating in the East Down Blitz.

  • The senior's position at the top of the table was reaffirmed on Friday night when they had a comfortable win over Warrenpoint. In a game that the hosts never looked like winning Kilcoo still had to concentrate for the full sixty minutes. This week sees the second half of the league fixture get underway with Kilcoo away to Castlewellan.
  • The seconds had a tough match at home to An Riocht last Sunday. Looking to build on their win over Rostrevor a week earlier they produced another strong midfield performance to win with 5/6 points to spare.
  • The Thirds produced a steady performance against Ballyholland Monday night last. Two points down at half time they really dug deep in the second half and some neat one two passing allowed them to walk through the Ballyholland defence and help themselves to a narrow one point victory
  • The minors bounced back from the championship defeat when they produced a good performance in the league away to Teconnaught.
  • The Under 16s built on last weeks result against Liatriom and produced the performance of the week with a thoroughly deserved draw against Bryansford. The lads have now produced a number of good performances over the last couple of weeks and are clearly beginning to grow in confidence.
  • The under 14's produced their usual performance last week against Drumaness in the league and ran out comfortable winners.
  • The U12s kicked of their championships season on Sunday. Before that however they accounted for Castlewellan in the league and then followed that up with a very comfortable win over Saul in the Championship.
  • The old injury jinks appears to be back. The club, mentors and players would like wish both Cillian Laverty and Conor McClean a speedy recovery following their nasty injuries over the last couple of weeks.
  • Good luck to Roger Morgan and the rest of the Minor county panel in Sundays semi final of the Ulster
