The
Magpies Notes - 31st May 2004
It has been mostly
good news coming out of the club this
week. The seniors picked up another
two points as well as adding to their
score difference, the seconds bounced
back from last weeks defeat to Warrenpoint,
the under 14s also picked themselves
up again but the Minors lost in the
championship.
" The seniors continued their good form when they easily accounted for Saval at the weekend. This game was all but over even before half time with a goal from Gary McEvoy as early as the first minute setting the magpies on their way. Twenty minutes in to the first half and the writing was on the wall. A mix up in the Saval defence saw the ball stumble over the line for an own goal, although some of the Kilcoo forwards did try to claim it, Conor Laverty added a third when some neat integrate play with Gary McEvoy saw him round the goalkeeper to send the ball to the net and leave the score line reading 3-3 to 0-2. In the second half another goal from Laverty along with an Anthony Devlin goal helped the team stroll home to win on a score line of 5-9 to 0-6.
" The seconds had a comfortable win over Rostrevor last Monday night. This was a very good team performance but with good individual displays of football from Sean Michael Devlin, Niall Morgan, Ryan Morgan and Martin Johnstone.
" The minors had a championship game against Mayobridge during the week and with a combination of some good scores and very good defensive play in the first half they went in at half time 0-5 to 0-5. In the second half the bridge upped their game and in the end even a late goal from Cathal McEvoy wasn't enough as the lads lost on a score line of 1-8 to 2-13.
" The Under 16s followed up there championship win with a well deserved draw against local rivals Liatriom. Trailing at half time the lads put in a very good team performance in the second half and but for a bit of luck they could have walked away with a win in the end they had to settle for a 0-11 to 0-11 draw.
" The under 14's got back to winning ways when they had a narrow victory over neighbours Clonduff last week.
" The club would like to extent there commiserations to Aiden Brannigan and the rest of the Down senior panel following their defeat to Cavan in the replay of the Ulster championship match. Let's hope for better luck in the qualifiers.
