The
Magpies Notes - 9th May 2004
While the seconds
and thirds continue to be game less
it was yet again up to the seniors
to provide the main entertainment
this week. The U14s and 16s were also
in action but with different out come.
• The seniors
bounced back from their defeat at
home to Longstone when they travelled
to Rostrevor last Monday night and
came away with 1-6 to 1-5 win. A first
half goal from Conor Laverty and an
own goal in the second half (although
Brian O’Hanlon may argue differently)
were the back bone to this victory.
On Friday night An Riocht were the
visitors and while the score line
of 0-18 to 0-11 may suggest an easy
victory the first half certainly was
anything but. In fact the Kingdom
were more than up for this match and
while Kilcoo wasted possession and
chances An Riocht continued to pop
the ball over the bar and led by three
points at half-time. The half-time
team talk certainly seemed to do its
job as the magpies came out of the
blocks fast and within ten minutes
had overhauled An Riochts lead. While
the away side began to struggle Kilcoo
began to take control and as the points
tally continued be build up they ended
with a winning margin of seven points
• The U16s
were up against Castlewellan this
week and once again produced a determined
and hard fought performance. In the
end however they lost out to a very
good team.
• The under
14s kept their unbeaten run going
when they out played Castlewellan.
The team got of to a very fast start
and never looked back. Following last
weeks win over Burren this was a performance
that continues to impress.
• The club
continues to struggle with its injury
problems as there seems to be no end
to the tally of wounded. The players
and mentors along with the rest of
the club look forward to a quick return
from Chris Morgan as he recovers from
a shoulder injury, we wish him the
best.
• The club
would like to wish their players Aideen
Brannigan and Roger Morgan the very
best of luck for Sundays Senior and
Minor Ulster football championship
matches against Cavan. Good luck to
both teams.
• Just to remind
all underage players that club membership
is now due and should be paid to either
team mentors or Gerry Laverty. Club
membership for underage players is
£2.
