END OF AN ERA
At the recent AGM of Kilcoo GFC,
the reign of probably the longest
serving Secretary in the history
of club football in Down (and maybe
Ireland) came to an end when Paddy
Morgan handed over his post to Brendan
Gribben. Paddy took up the post
in 1968 and has administered the
business of the club for the past
36 years during which many exciting
changes have taken place.
In the early days the club had
many temporary homes before they
secured and developed their current
ground and Paddy was always in the
forefront of the development. Also,
on the playing front, Paddy saw
many changes and in recent years
has seen all the underage championships
coming to the club, culminating
in the winning of Division 1 last
year. Although Paddy has relinquished
the post of Secretary, his knowledge
and hard work will not be lost to
Kilcoo as he has agreed to remain
as a committee member, and no doubt
his advice will be sought on many
issues in the future. Kilcoo GFC
wish to publicly acknowledge the
immense contribution Paddy has made
in all areas of club activity over
the past 36 years and hope that
he will continue to serve the club
for many years to come.
Another long serving member, with
over 25 years unbroken service decided
to take a rest from active duty
when Gerry Kane did not seek re-election
to the committee. Gerry has held
the post of Vice Chairman in recent
years, but it will be for his work
in maintaining the grounds that
he will be most remembered for.
The excellent condition of the field
at all times of the year was largely
due to Gerry's efforts and the unselfish
giving of his time and we wish him
well in what we hope will be a temporary
'retirement'.
