Ulster Junior
Camogie FInal: Liatroim 2-14 Castletara
1-02
Sunday,
October 03, 2004
The
Down champions, Liatroim came to
Annalee Park, Ballyhaise on Sunday
3rd October for the Ulster Junior
Camogie Final and a clash with the
home side, Castletara and came away
with the honours in convincing fashion
winning the game on a scoreline
of 2-14 to 1-2.
The
Down side went into the game as
strong favourites but were rocked
in their stride in the opening quarter
when Majella Smith for the home
side got through for a goal direct
from a 30 metres free. However,
they held their composure, and were
ahead at the interval by 1-7 to
1-1.
The
expected comeback from the Castletara
side at the start of the second-half
never materialised as the visitors
displaying great skill and teamwork
were just too strong for the Cavan
titleholders and ran out convincing
winners in the end.
This
was an excellent performance from
the Liatroim side, who showed they
are a very skilful and determined
side. As for Castletara, they never
really looked like winning the game,
but to their credit they battled
to the end in a match played in
far from ideal weather conditions.
