ACFL Div 1: Mayobridge 3.12 Annaclone 1.6 - 16/05/2003

Mayobridge returned to some semblance of their true form in this big win over newcomers Annaclone. The Bridge had far too much craft and experience and were convincing winners at the end. In the first half the Sky Blues raced into an early lead of 1.3 to 0.0 with Benny Coulter getting the goal in the sixth minute. Glen McMahon scored a second goal in the 20 th minute but far too much fancy play instead of a more direct approach saw the home side miss at least three other goaling opportunities.

The score at the break read 2.6 to 1.3 In the second half the Bridge continued to dominate but has great difficulty in getting the ball out of defence through too ma ny short passes. In the conditions this was a dangerous tactic and Annaclone almost took full advantage on several occasions to punish this sloppy play. Certainly a more astute forward line would have smashed in at least a couple of goals.

The third goal came in the 52nd minute when a defender was caught in possession and Adrian Barry and Ronan Sexton combined to put Glen McMahon through and crashed the ball home. This was a better team performance and the champions were well worth their twelve point winning margin.
