Mayobridge 1.7 Dromore 1.9
The curtain came down on the senior
teams exploits on a cold day in
Newry on Sunday afternoon. This
was a game that we expected to win
and when Conor Garvey put us three
points ahead with his goal at the
start of the second half, many observers
felt we had it in the bag. But the
Tyrone men were resilient and fought
back and win the game by two points,
the Bridges only remaining score
coming from a Michael Walsh free.
The first half saw the Bridge play
against the Bridge and were the
better team in the half. Some great
support play from everyone and some
great scores by Mickey Walsh, Benny
Coulter, Adrian Barry and the Sexton
brothers saw the sky blues go in
level at the break. They were winning
6-4 going into injury time but Dromore
got two great scores to give themselves
a massive boost going for the half
time break.
The bridge started brilliantly with
the Garvey goal but we seemed to
take the foot of the gas. Some superb
scores from Sean O’Neill brought
them back to life before a Conor
O’Neill goal eight minutes
from time was the sucker punch.
The Bridge tried gallantly to get
the goal to steal the game but it
never came except for a Walsh free.
Dromore now meet all-Ireland champions
Crossmaglen in Clones this Sunday.
Although it was disappointing on
Sunday, we have to be extremely
proud of our players. Who can forget
the excitement throughout the year,
from Ronan Sexton’s goal in
Burren, To Benny’s introduction
and great goal in Pairc Esler and
big Johns last gasp winner in Omagh.
The lads give everyone in the village
a great sense of achievement and
winning county titles make you feel
extremely proud to be from here.
To win four club championships in
a row is a fabulous achievement;
hopefully the lads can enjoy their
break over the winter and come back
next year and hopefully emulate
the Burren team of the 80’s
by winning 5 in a row. Thanks to
Mickey, Paul, Francie and all the
boys for their great work this year.
