In phase two of the Down League
these two teams shared the spoils
for the second time in a highly
entertaining encounter. The
Galgets drew first blood racing
into a 1-3 to no score lead
with Dannny Toner and Conor
Doran getting on the score sheet.
It took Portaferry 10 minutes
to settle as they opened their
account with the highly impressive
Michael Doran and Eunan Mc Mullan
to reduce the arrears. With
Conor Young and Aaron O Prey
beginning to see more ball the
Ports replied with a goal of
their own with a great catch
and strilke from Ryan Miskelly
to leave the halft time score
1-07 to 1-06 in the home side's
favour.
The second half started with
Portaferry turning on the gas
as early points from again Michael
Doran and Miskelly levelled
matters up after Conor Doran
had previously popped a great
65 over. The turning point for
this young Ports team was the
sending off the Ballygalget
goal keeper after a wild stroke
on Owen Taggart. Both teams
thereafter were on level terms
after Taggart scored a great
equalising point and the referee
blew up to ensure no team could
claim bragging rights.
This game was free flowing
in the first period with some
wonderful long range points
scored by both teams. For the
homes side Danny Toner showed
glimpses off his great pace
whilst Conor Doran and Chrissy
Conlan excelled. Portaferry
can be well satisfied with the
point as 9 of their starting
15 were under 16 and also given
the litany of injured personnel.
Conor Young with Brendan Coleman
when moved out to the wing were
outstanding whilst Michael Doran
and Aaron O Prey ruled the roast
in the midfield sector and Matthew
Conlan picked off some great
points in attack.
