Down Minor Football Championship Final: Rostrevor 1-15 Kilcoo 1-07

Rostrevor turned in a magnificent team performance in this replay of the Down Minor Championship.

This match didn't reach the same heights as the drawn game, simply because the Reds never allowed Kilcoo in with a chance of winning. Rostrevor were superior in most departments, particularly at midfield. Ryan Watt and Eamon McConville controlled this sector until Patrick Grant made a belated spurt for Kilcoo in the last 10 minutes.

Only Conor Laverty and Rory Devlin threatened to trouble a Rostrevor defence oozing with confidence.

Aidan Cousins, Adrian Magee and Martin Farrell were remarkably resilient in closing down the forwards who had caused them so much grief the last time. At the other end of the field, Adrian and Conor Mackin, Shaun Parr and Colm Clerkin were powerfully skilled attackers. Niall McEvoy and Paul Greenan coped admirably under serious pressure.

Rostrevor were already looking superior before Conor Mackin set up Adrian Mackin for a devastating goal. Conor Mackin missed a second goal and even the dismissal of Chris Doyle didn't harm the Reds' momentum.

At half time they led 1-9 to 0-3 and already the result looked inevitable. Early in the second half Eamon McConville stepped back over his goal line and gifted Kilcoo a goal.

Kilcoo sensed a chance but when Aidan Cousins denied Conor Laverty on his line it was all over. Rostrevor were undisputed minor champions of 2003.

Kilcoo:
Stephen Kane, Chris Ward, Roger Morgan, Martin Farrell, Dean McCusker, Niall McEvoy, Paul Greenan, Felim McGreevy, Patrick Grant, Cathal McEvoy, Conor Laverty 0-3, John McGreevy, Alphonsus McEvoy, Ruairi Devlin, Paul Kane 1-3.

Subs:
Sean Kelly 0-1, Arthur McClean, Gary Morgan.

Rostrevor:
Jonathan Parr, Neil Morgan, Aidan Cousins, Martin Farrell, Julian Keogh, Pat Mooney, Adrian Magee, Ryan Watt 0-1, Eamon McConville, Conor Mackin 0-3, Chris Doyle, Pat McEntee, Colm Clerkin 0-3, Shaun Parr 0-1, Adrian Mackin 1-7.

Sub:
Colin Farrell.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
THE player of the match was unquestionably Adrian Mackin. Lining out at corner forward, Mackin roamed at will, creating havoc in the Kilcoo backline. His positional sense, passing and scoring were all top class. He had good support from Conor Mackin and Shaun Parr but Adrian certainly did more than anyone to win this game for Rostrevor.

The save of the match was made by Kilcoo's Stephen Kane 10 minutes into the second half when he denied Adrian Mackin a goal.

The move of the match involved Eamon McConville and Conor Mackin before Adrian Mackin took his first half goal.
