Senior Football Championship: Rostrevor 2-07 Annaclone 0-07
In an entertaining Down SFC quarter-final, Rostrevor's ability
to score goals help them see of the challenge of underdogs, Annaclone on a scoreline
of Rostrevor 2-7 Annaclone at Newry on Sunday, 7th September.
Rostrevor
struck their first crucial blow at the beginning of the game when their young
full-forward, Fintan McBrien gave, Annaclone keeper, Paddy Burns no chance just
after thirteen second.
Rostrevor had control of midfield from an early
stage where Martin Cole and Martin Sherry were in excellent form. Points from
Aidan and Brian Cole and Dermot and Adrian Mackin had them well on their with
1-4 to 0-1 advantage by the end of the first quarter.
While the Annaclone
attack lacked penetration, they were unlucky when in the twentieth minute Colm
Farrell saw his shot rebound of the woodwork. Points from Paul Byrne and Daniel
McCusker kept them in touch and saw the half Rostrevor 1-4 Annaclone 0-3.
Just as they did in the first half, Rostrevor were quick of the mark when a quick
free by Dermot Mackin found Aidan Cole who blasted past a static Annaclone defence.
Despite being down to fourteen men after wing forward, Brian Cole was red carded
just five minutes before half time, Rostrevor never were put under any real threat
and now go forward to play Bryansford in the semi-final with the holders, Mayobridge
playing Castlewellan.
