Rostrevor best in Down SFC Replay

Action Shot from Rostrevor Longstone Championship Game - by L McNally

Rostrevor showed tremendous battling qualities in this Down SFC first round replay in Pairc Esler, Newry on Wednesday 11th August, when despite having to play with 14-men they overcame a strong Longstone side on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-12.

This was without doubt the best game of football played in the Down SFC to date with the big crowd treated to some excellent football, great scores and drama and excitement a the end. Despite losing a man so early in the game, Rostrevor ‘rose to the occasion’ in tremendous style, playing some of their best football this season in those closing 45 minutes.
Longstone for their part battled gamely to the end, and were in contention to force a draw right up to the final minutes.

A big win for the Rostrevor club, who displayed great character with 14-men for most of the game, plus the fact that they lost the services of their influential midfielder Jarlath Austin n the opening half.
