Rostrevor minors
impressive winners over Granemore
Tuesday, December 07, 2004
In the opening round of the Ulster minor football competition
played at the weekend, the Down champions,
Rostrevor had an impressive 1-11 to
1-7 win over the Armagh title-holders,
Granemore.
This was a top class
game between two talented sides with
very little between them for most of
the hour. At the interval Rostrevor
led by 1-7 to 1-4 with the goals coming
early in the half from Declan Doyle
(Granemore) and Colum Clerkin for Rostrevor.
Rostrevor were on top
in the third quarter of the game and
went into a five points lead with less
than 13 minutes remaining in the game.
Granemore put in a strong finish but
it wasn’t enough as the Down title-holders
held out for a deserved four points
win and a meeting with Cavan Gaels in
the next round of the competition next
Sunday week.
