Rostrevor
Notes - 14th May 2005
·
No dispute about the top performance of
the week in club circles after Rostrevor
under 16 ladies football team finished
their league programme with a 2-21 to
1-1 victory over Drumgath. In the words
of team manager, Christopher Doyle,
Aislinn McGeough was “on fire” as she
shot an amazing 2-12 of her sides total.
There were also fine performances from
Natasha Daryaie [0-5], Emer
McGeough[0-3] and Michelle Morgan.[0-1].
The win means that Rostrevor finish the
league in a respectable mid-table
position, and is just the boost they
need as they get down to preparations
for a difficult championship encounter
with Bryansford on May 29th.
·
Another outstanding display was that
given by Adrian Mackin for the seniors
on Friday evening. It looked as if
Adrian’s 1-5 would be enough to steer
Reds to victory over the reigning
champions before a big crowd in Pettit
Park. They led by five points with ten
minutes to go, but then on came
Mayobridge player-manager, Mickey
Linden, and the visitors rallied to hit
six points in a row. But just as it
seemed that Bridge had stolen a win,
Conor Daly equalised in injury time to
give Rostrevor a 1-11 to 0-14 draw which
was the least they deserved for a fine
performance.
·
The reserves had a comfortable 2-9 o 0-5
win over Shamrocks in the Premier
reserve Championship in Newry on
Thursday last. Adrian Magee and Martin
Sherry were the stars , with the goals
coming from Niall Magee and Joe Fegan.
·
The minors were never tested in their
opening defence of their championship
crown on Wednesday. They rolled over
Liatroim by 5-15 to 2-6 in Fontenoy
Park. Several of the boys were
subsequently in action for Down minors.
Colm Clerkin scored three points in the
win over Monaghan on Saturday, Eamonn
McConville lined out at Centre half back
and Conor Mackin was at wing forward.
Conor sustained an injury in that game
which looks likely to rule him out of
the Tyrone game on Sunday week. All in
the club wish him a speedy recovery.
·
The under 16s continue to show strongly.
Last week Richie Reynolds was
outstanding in a very impressive 5-9 to
1=10 win at league rivals Burren. On
Tuesday, the big full forward was also
in unstoppable form against Shamrocks,
scoring 2-4 in a 5-16 to 1-2 home
victory . Declan Magee[1-4] and Sean
Mackin[1-2] also shone as did Nicholas
Mills and Gareth Clarke.
·
There were good wins , too, for the
under 14s [5-15 to 1-4 at home to
Clonduff] and the under 12s [1-6 to 2-2
away to Saval].
·
Members should start to rehearse their
most inscrutable faces for the big Poker
night on Friday week, 20th
May in the social clubrooms. Proceeds go
towards the club training fund.
