League
REDS ROLL ON
Rostrevor 5-16 Shamrocks 1-2
Rostrevor continue to forge ahead at the
top of the under 16 league. On Tuesday
in Pettit Park, they were just too big,
too slick, too everything for a gallant
Shamrocks, who battled to the end
against daunting odds.
PROBLEMS
Shamrocks problems stemmed from the fact
that they simply couldn’t get the ball
past Reds two tall and agile
midfielders. Declan and Damien Magee
ensured that a potent attack had
constant possession to gorge on in the
first half, and Richie Reynolds and Sean
Mackin made the most of their riches.
Reynolds hit 2-3 as Rostrevor moved to a
3-10 to 0-2 half time lead. And Mackin
the architect of much, added a very good
goal himself. Shamrocks showed great
character to dominate the third quarter
of the game, and narrowed the gap with
a goal from Gareth White, but normal
service resumed for Reds in the final
quarter, as Dermot Morgan and Declan
Magee added further goals in a runaway
victory
BEST
It was an all-round performance for
Rostrevor. Gareth Clarke shone in the
full back line, Declan Magee was
tireless at midfield, and Sean Mackin,
Nicholas Mills and Richie Reynolds gave
excellent displays in the attack.
Shamrocks had their stars too; Colm
Heaney was outstanding in goals, as was
Mark McManus and Daniel McCoy in
defence. Conor Daly worked hard at
midfield and Conor Cole and Gareth White
did enough o suggest that they could
have inflicted more damage with better
possession.
