PAUL TAKES THE PLAUDITS - Annual
Awards
Popular Rostrevor full back Paul Magee
came away from last Fridays Rostrevor
Awards Banquet with a rare honour. For,
after what was arguably the most
successful year in the clubs history,
Paul came out tops in both the
prestigious Players' Player of the Year
and the Supporters' Player of the Year
awards. The Reds defender, who also
served the club off the field as
Assistant Secretary, had another reason
to rejoice as well, as he watched his
younger brother Gary, a member of this
years successful Down All-Ireland Minor
team, receive his third set of County
Minor league and Championship medals
from the hands of Tyrone All-Star Sean
Cavanagh.
The Tyrone man made a special reference
to the success of the clubs minor team
in winning the Down league and
Championship Double for the third year
in a row, pointing out how vital
under-age success had been in building
up the impetus for Tyrone’s surge to the
top in senior football.
Turlough Murphy, who scored the crucial
goal against Mayobridge as Rostrevor won
their first ever Division One title last
November, was voted Reserve Player of
the Year.
Conor Magee was voted Minor player of
the year with Padraig Mulholland as
runner-up, and the achievement of the
club in winning the All-County Minor
league was all the more remarkable in
that it had to be achieved largely
without the services of the seven county
minors, Eamonn McConville, Colm Clerkin,
Gerard McCartan, Gary Magee, Conor
Mackin, Colm Murney and Patrick Mooney.
Other ward winners were PJ Farrell [Clubperson
of the year]; Kathleen McNally [Female
personality of the year]and Jimmy
McGuinness [Hall of Fame];
Club Chairman, Anthony Donnan made three
Chairmans Awards to Paul Braham, Lloyd
Parr and Jarlath Austin.
Special presentations were made to the
Senior management team [Aidan Farrell,
Jarlath Austin, Kieran Clarke , John
Mallon, Seamus McGuinness, Raymond
McNally, Liam Sloan and Aidan Rice.]
and to the Minor management team
[Anthony McConville, Kieran Mooney,
Patsy Mulholland and Kieran McNally]
