The much anticipated first match of
the season for the u14s boys was against
local rivals Warrenpoint. Rostrevor
started fast out of the blocks with
full forward and newly named captain
for the year Patrick Morgan taking a
well finished goal. This opened the
scoring rout for the Reds for the next
15-20 mins with Declan Ryan, Ryan Cousins,
Lee Clerkin and Patrick Morgan adding
numerous scores with good support play
being the main contributing factor from
the midfielders Tomas Muholland and
Daniel Morgan and attacking halfbacks
James Roland and Jordan Fegan. Rostrevor
continued to dominate right up to half-time
with the score after 30mins amounting
to 4-11 to 0-1 in favour of the Reds.
A couple of positional changes were
made at half-time with Damian Keenan
moved out of nets into midfield and
Gareth Caulfield in to replace him between
the sticks. Warrenpont had a decent
spell of 10 mins while Rostrevor adjusted
to the changes however this did not
last long with the always influential
Patrick Morgan leading the attack superbly
adding another few goals and some brilliant
points. Ryan Cousins continued to pull
the strings from centre-half forward
and Lee Clerkin, Daniel Morgan, Damian
Keenan and Tomas Muholland all helping
to add to the ever increasing score
line.
With 15mins to go a large number of
subs were brought on to give some valuable
game time to the 22 man panel. Sean
Cooper and young Padraig McAteer being
two of the subs who took their opportunity
with both hands. The fast paced game
started to slow down in the last 5mins
as would be expected at this early time
of the season. The final score ended
9-15 to 3-4 to Rostrevor.
A great performance by captain Patrick
Morgan rubbed onto the lads around him
such as Lee Clerkin, Ryan Cousins and
Declan Ryan in the forward line. Tomas
Muholland and Daniel Morgan must have
covered every blade of grass on the
pitch in midfield and Paudie McGrath,
Paul Morgan, Conor Doyle never gave
an inch to their men in defence.
With the U14 Down Feile in a couple
of weeks this game has provided a good
platform to build on.

MINORS SHOW PROMISE
Rostrevor minors showed promise when
losing narrowly to a strong Carryduff
team in this pre-season challenge in
Belfast. Ryan McCartan, Chris magee
and Stephen Morgan all did well in defence,
with Michael Mcveigh the star at midfield
and Micheal mackin and paudie parr most
productive in attack.
DISAPPOINTMENT FOR SECONDS.
Another disappointment was in store
for the seconds who lost 1-9 to 0-20
at home to castlewellan, but the under
16s did well to come away from Bosco
with a draw.
