A late point from Matthew Dagnall gave
Glenn a deserved draw against champions
Rostrevor in the opening round of the
Minor championship last Wednesday evening.
Well-deserved, too, was the identity
of the scorer, for Matthew was the best
footballer afield and, in addition to
that dramatic equaiser, he finished
the games top scorer with 1-5, and was
always to the fore as Glenn threatened
an upset.
Reds had gotten themselves off to a
promising start with Hugh John Parrs
accuracy and Christopher Magees industry
helping them build up a five point lead,
But bagnall inspired a thrilling Glenn
recovery , shooting a fine goal and
two points to give the home team a narrow
1-5 to 0-7 lead at the interval.
STORMING
But Rostrevor responded with a barnstorming
goal from Mickey McVeigh at the start
of the second half, and led from then
until late in the final quarter, when
midfielder Eamon McNulty got through
for a goal which left the home side
briefly in the lead. Reds battled back,
however, and looked to have escaped
with a one point win when Cathal Cooper
made it 1-12 to 2-8 going in to added
time. Matthew Bagnalls added time equaliser,
however, gave Glenn the replay they
certainly deserved.
