For the second time in three games Saul surrendered a substantial lead on two
occasions before scrambling to earn a draw away to Newry Bosco on Friday last.
Following points from Davy McKinley and Michael Vint Saul ran into a 2 point lead
after 5 minutes and this lead was extended when Michael Vint scored a great goal
on the 12 minute mark. Saul were in control but failed to extend their lead, and
this failure to hammer home their advantage was cruelly punished by Bosco who
scored 2 points in the 16th minute and a goal in the 23rd minute to somehow draw
level.
To their credit Saul didn’t collapse and a further
goal from Ryan Burns and 2 points from JP Burke saw them again lead by 5 points
at the interval on a scoreline of Saul 2-4, Bosco 1-2. Saul started the second
half in great style and a point from JP Burke in the 1st minute saw them lead
by 6 points. Then things went disastrously wrong for Saul, Bosco scored 1-4 in
5 minutes and Saul were behind, trailing by a point after being seemingly in control,
the Bosco lead became 2 points with a pointed free after 10 minutes, but a point
from Michael Vint after 11 minutes settled Saul nerves and a point from JP Burke
on 16 minutes levelled things.
Bosco regained the lead
on 17 minutes from a long range point but Saul didn’t collapse and poured forward
with attack after attack failing only to score thanks to good Bosco defence, the
woodwork, and some wayward shooting. They were rewarded though when JP Burke held
his nerve to point a free with almost the last kick of the game.
