Saul's good start to the 2003 campaign
continued with their third win in a row at home to
Bosco on Monday evening.
This was a tough game strongly contested
by two teams that will surely be contesting "play
- off " places come September.
The opening period was keenly contested,
with Bosco taking an early lead courtesy of two pointed
frees from the boot of Adrian Larkin. Saul, nonetheless
continued to work the visitors defence and their efforts
were rewarded by a point from star forward Michael
Vint, this was soon followed by a superb goal from
who else, but Michael Vint to see Saul take a deserved
two point lead. The lead was cemented by two well
taken points from Paul Craig before an Adrian Larkin
point from another Bosco free , saw the scores at
half - time, Saul 1-3, Bosco 0-3.
Saul all but sealed victory after
five minutes of the second half, when a prolonged
period of Saul pressure ended with Gregory Holland
fisting the ball to the Bosco net to give Saul a six
point lead. Two further points from Paul Craig and
a point from Noel Napier, against just two points
from frees from Adrian Larkin for Bosco, saw Saul
run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of Saul
2-6, Bosco 0-5.
This was a good team performance
from Saul, with all but one of their scores coming
from play while in contrast all the Bosco scores were
from frees. All of the Saul players on duty performed
well, in the defence there were noteworthy performances
from Adam King and Donnie Ritchie, Davy Mckinlay had
a brilliant hour at midfield, while Paul Craig and
Michael Vint carried a potent threat in attack.
