play off hopes back on track - 28/07/2003

Saul got their "play - off" hopes back on track after winning at Dundrum, following
a fine performance which was in stark contrast to the inept laboured performance
at Aghaderg the previous week. Saul opened the scoring with a point from Paul
Craig on the 2 minute mark. Saul were wasteful of good possession and paid the
price as Dundrum levelled things with a point after 8 minutes. This injected some
energy into saul and a point from JP Burke after 10 minutes saw them regain the
lead - a lead which they weren't to loose.
A goal from Philip Trainor
after 15 minutes, and another point from JP Burke after 22 minutes saw Saul establish
a 5 point lead, Dundrum rallied briefly, scoring points on 25 and 26 minutes,
only to see Damian Campbell score a fine point on the half hour mark to see Saul
lead by 4 points at the break -Saul 1-4, Dundrum 0-3. A point from JP Burke in
the 1st minute of the second half extended the Saul lead, but 3 quick Dundrum
points saw the Saul lead whittled down to just 2 points after 7 minutes. Points
from JP Burke, and Peter McKenna brought the Saul lead back to 4 points after
9 minutes, only for Dundrum to score a point after 10 minutes to leave just a
goal between the sides. Both teams the went for broke, but points from Damian
Campbell and JP Burke saw Saul lead by 5 points with 5 minutes on the clock. Dundrum
got some hope with a point on the 27 minute mark, but points in added time from
Peter McKenna and John McKinley saw Saul run out winners on a 1-11 to 0-8 score.
This was a solid team performance from Saul, but Adam King in defence
and JP Burke in attack were particularly impressive for the winners.
