Taken from Down Democrat
SAUL got the better of Kiclief on
their home patch at St. Malachy’s.
In a high scoring cut and thrust
thriller the St. Patrick’s boys
ran out six points winners.
It was Kilclief though who struck
early, Conor Magee planting the
ball in the net in the fifth minute
following a fine run and pass from
Ryan Curran.
The home lead though lasted just
three minutes as Jason Deegans’
dipping free kick dropped into the
net beyond the reach of the groping
Gavin Hampton. From then on the
scores flowed.
Richard Kerr popped over the Kiclief
point in the tenth minute but it
was immediately wiped out by a Conor
Fitzsimons goal as Saul jumped two
points clear.
However Tony Quail had Hampton
scrambling again as he cracked in
another Kilclief goal.
Donal Reilly plundered another
Saul point, but Kerr raced in to
bury the ball in the net for a brilliant
Kilclief score.
Kilclief then finished the half
in style as Caolan Sloan tapped
over following a quick Kerr free
kick.
Owen Curran then twisted into space
to angle over a superb point to
set the score at: Kilclief 3-03;
Saul’s 2-01.
However against the swirling wind
in the second half Kilclief failed
miserably. It was now Saul’s turn
to spring forward and it took them
just two minutes of the second half
to score, Brian Gaffney pointing.
Further points from Conor Fitzsimons
and Liam Magee closed the gap even
further, before Magee returned to
fire in the vital Saul goal.
Caolan Sloan managed a brief point
in defiance, but by this time it
was all Saul as Liam Magee flicked
over a free followed by a Rory Burns
point.
Damian Hamill then finished the
contest in style for Saul with a
well taken goal.
