Senior Div II: Drumgath 4-6 to
Saul 1-11
Saul traveled to Drumgath on Sunday
hoping to continue their winning
ways. Despite scoring 12 scores
to Drumgath 10 scores, Saul let
yet another winnable game slip from
their grasp. Four goals from Drumgath,
three in the first half and a penalty
in the second half were too much
to recover from. Saul started well
and found themselves 3 - 1 up after
ten minutes with 2 point from Philip
Trainor and 1 point from Michael
Vint. A long ball from a Drumgath
Midfielder lead to Drumgath's first
goal of the day, which put them
in front after 15 minutes. Saul
replied with a point from Traynor,
but again Drumgath's long ball tactic
caught Saul on the hop, and an unmarked
man on the edge of the box collected
the ball easily and sent the ball
to the net. Saul continued to work
the ball well and were rewarded
with two scores from Traynor and
McKenna. Again Saul's concentration
lacked in defence and a ball played
out to the line on the 21 yard line
was played between three Drumgath
men before it was worked across
the goal mouth and into the Saul
net. Drumgath scored a further point
before half time, but Saul finished
strongly and scored a goal from
Traynor after a good 'knock on'
by Vint. The score at half time
read Drumgath 3-2 to Saul 1-6.
Drumgath started the second half
with the first two points to extend
their lead. A good point from McKenna
from play was followed by a Drumgath
converted penalty, the score now
Drumgath 4-5 to Saul 1-7. Saul continued
to attack and scored a further two
points from McKenna and Traynor.
A Drumgath point from play was cancelled
by points from Damian Campbell and
Hugh McGrath. Saul competed well
and most take some promise from
the fact they scored 14, unfortunately
for the Saul men the four goals
had put this game out of reach.
