Senior Div II: Saul 2-10 to Kilclief

The first match of the week was
against Kilclief on Wednesday night,
were a large crowd gathered at Saul.
Saul were slow to start in this
game and found themselves trailing
by 5 points to 2 (JP Burke) after
10 minutes. Saul started to claw
their way back into this game with
points from McKenna, Vint and Traynor
to level the scores. A great move
from Saul seen Michael Vint send
the ball to the back of the net,
to see Saul take the lead for the
first time in this match. Before
half time Kilclief managed a point
to leave the score 1-5 to 0-6 at
half time.
Kilclief long ball tactic to Rory
Sharvin paid off with Kilclief taking
the first score of the second half,
this was followed by another Kilclief
point before P Traynor pulled one
back for Saul. With Saul now three
points up, Kilclief continued to
attack and were rewarded with a
goal to level the game at 1-7 to
–17. Kilclief now in their
strongest period, with the wind,
scored a further 3 points to put
them firmly in the lead. Saul continued
to work hard against the wind and
started to work the ball well into
their forward lines. Traynor received
the ball on the left wing, 21 yard
out, took his man on, beat another
four and sent the ball to the Kilclief
net to the roars of an appreciative
Saul crowd. The score now level
at 2-7 to 1-10. A Kilclief point
was cancelled out by a Vint point.
With the game up for grabs Damian
Campbell struck over a brilliant
fifty against the wind to give Saul
the advantage. With time now running
out for Kilclief, McKenna collected
the ball 30 yards from goal took
a few steps and stuck the ball sweetly
over the bar to give Saul their
first two points of the week.
