Saul avoid automatic relegation

Senior Div II: Tullyish 0-11 to Saul 1-10

Saul traveled to Lawrencetown early on Friday night needing to take 2pts from the game to avoid automatic relegation, and they did just that. Tullyish were to take the first mark of the night with a point from play quickly after the throw in. Saul responded quickly with three converted points from Traynor and a great point from Donnie Ritchie out on the right. A pointed free from McKenna was cancelled out by a Tullyish point from play. Tullyish reduced the lead again, before Traynor pointed from a free kick and Davy McKinley pointed after a great block from Noel Napier and good work from Hugh McGrath out of defence. Tullyish scored their third free of the first half and a point from play without reply, before Saul rounded of the first half scoring with a good point from McKenna 35yards out. The score at half time read Tullyish 0-05 to Saul 0-08.

Tullyish, now playing with a mild breeze started the second half strongly and scored a point quickly from the throw and a point from a free out on the right, to leave 1point between the sides. The next five minutes were very competitive with no real opportunities to mention. Saul continued to attack and a great Goal from Michael Vint gave Saul some breathing room and a renewed boast of confidence. This boast of confidence resulted in a great score with Lee Magee from a tight angle on the right and a Traynor point form play to put Saul 5 Points in the clear. Tullyish now rattled came back strongly and scored three unanswered points to leave only two points between the sides. With time now running out for Tullyish, Damian Campbell collected the ball on the 45yard line and struck the ball sweetly to see it heading for a sure point, only for the referee to blow his whistle as the ball had left Campbell's foot and couldn't record the point in his book. For the Saul men the job had been done and now they faced Glasdrumman in a do or be relegated contest on Saul on Sunday.
