Saul Notes - Jan 22nd 2006

  • Seniors

    • The senior squad had a second get-together to plan for the new season. The players are now following personal fitness programmes with fitness tests planned for January 31st (Tues) at 7.30pm in Saul Hall. All players are asked to access the senior player section on the club website (www.saul-gac.com) for the schedules and to complete the contact forms and assessments asap. • Minor Training & Match

    • The minors and U16 training commenced on Sunday with a large turnout of players eagerly looking forward to the season start on February 5th. Under the guidance of Conor O'Neill, Gary Laverty and Paul Fitzsimons the squads took a tough session in their stride showing little sign of rustiness from the winter break The only negative from the session was the absence of a few slow starters who we hope to see in the weeks ahead. Training and a probable friendly match with Downpatrick will take place this Sunday with all players asked to meet at Saul at 11.30am

  • Scor

    • Final preparations are in place for the clubs attempts on the cultural titles on offer from the 2006 Scor competitions which get underway on Feb 4th/5th. Phil Stratton as usual is fine tuning the club's representatives but would still welcome any additional volunteers to help out.

  • Membership

    • 2006 club membership is now due and can be paid at the clubrooms, at the registration sessions or to team management.

All parents are also welcomed. Tea, Coffee will be available. Besides registration and membership, the team management will outline the plans for the club and especially the teams (training etc) for 2006. • Scoreboard and Park

    • The club grounds committee has been working feverishly over the winter to improve and maintain the playing surface at St  Patrick's Park. Thanks to their ongoing work we have one of the best playing surfaces in the county.  The club has also purchased a new "state of the art" digital scoreboard which is hoped to be in action for the start of the leagues..

  • Fundraising initiative

    • The club is due to launch a major new fundraising initiative in the near future to aid the ongoing development of our facilities and further improve our function to provide gaelic games to the community - keep an eye on the club website (www.saul-gac.com) and on this column for more news.

    • All interested club mentors and coaches are invited to a meeting in the Saul clubrooms tonight (Tuesday) at 7.30pm. This will be a critical first session in an important year for the club at underage and senior level. If you feel you can offer any assistance to the development and organisation of our teams this season please attend and get involved.

  • Down coaching conference

    • The county coaching conference takes place on Saturday 4th February in St Malachy's High School Castlewellan.  The conference runs from 9:30 to 5:00pm and launches the new GO GAMES initiative and will also address issues relating to the further development of our games in Down.
