2007
Saul Dinner Dance
2007
Saul's members, players,
parents and supporters celebrated
an excellent year with the annual
club dinner dance at the Burrendale
Hotel, Newcastle on Friday night last.
With the juvenile presentations having
been successfully held over the last
2 weekends, this was a chance for
the patrons to dress-up and enjoy
an evening which marked and recognised
all aspects of sporting and cultural
involvement that make the St Patrick's
club and community so enjoyable to
be a part of.
After a great meal
and a video review of the Saul season
across all activities, club Chairman
Peter Craig announced the award winners
to the approval of the gathering.
Senior half-back Aodhan Brady took
the player of the year trophy for
the 2nd year in succession with JP
Burke picking up the players award.
Among the other highlights were recognition
awards for the managers across the
U12's, U14's and U16's, recognition
of Philip Traynor's role as senior
team coach and presentations to the
successful Scor participants. Also
Ronan Brady, who picked up an award
recognising his fast-track emergence
onto the senior team, showed that
he's hot on the heels of his older
brother Aodhan. Rounding off the awards,
club secretary Paddy Curran received
the cub person of the year and former
player, secretary, treasurer and committee
stalwart John McGrath was elected
to the club hall of fame. Thereafter,
tables were cleared and the members
danced the night away to the music
of 'Trend'.

Under 13 League: Saul 3:06 Bredagh
5:14
Saul under 13s played
Bredagh in Saul on Sunday for their
last competitive game of a very successful
underage season in 2007. The game
was well refereed by Bredagh's Aidan
Fitzpatrick and both teams used their
full complement of players in what
was an entertaining and sporting match.
Saul used the opportunity
to play players in different positions
to prepare for the 2008 under 14 season.
Tiarnán Curran's shot-stopping
and distribution were impressive and
he was well protected by dominant
full back Paul McMullan until he was
replaced due to injury. Skipper Ciaran
McGrady led his troops by example,
and he was aided by Mikey Rice and
man of the match John Hampton in a
strong half-back line. Saul conceded
a number of early scores and regrettably
were playing catch-up for most of
the game. They never lost heart however
and Ciarán Harney was inspirational
in taking the game to Bredagh. Cillian
Gallagher, Tony Molyneaux and Jack
Murnin shared most of the scoring
but ultimately the gap between the
2 sides was too large.
Overall, a very young
Saul side has found it difficult against
the top sides in this league but they
have learnt a lot from the experience.
The players now break for the winter
with resumption on boys registration
day at 11:15 on Sunday January 27th.
The indoor training planned for November
/ December has been postponed until
after registration to give the club
coaches a well earned rest. The club
wishes to convey thanks to all our
coaches, players and parents who helped
make this such an exceptional year.
Parents and players are reminded to

Saul go for County
Scor-na-nog laurels
The Down County Scor-na-nog
finals take to the stage at Saval
Community Centre this Sunday (Nov
25th). Starting at 6pm sharp, Saul
will once again be well represented
thanks to the high standard of preparation
that Phil Stratton and Gareth McGreevy
have put into working with the talented
team members. Saul will compete strongly
for the titles in Ballad Group (Grainne
Laverty, Nicole Leung-Soon, Sarah
McVeigh, Cristina Holland and Roisin
Sloan), Instrumental Music (Sarah
McVeigh, Cristina Holland, Michael
McMullan and Paul and Brian Riordan)
and the creative and funny Novelty
Act (Niall Laverty, Sarah McVeigh,
Grainne Laverty, Nicole Leung-Soon,
Orla Holland, Roisin Sloan, Owen McVeigh
and Cristina Holland). Good luck to
all our competitors - we're right
behind you. All available support
is encouraged to make their way to
Saval on Sunday evening to not only
enjoy a great night's entertainment
but also recognise the high cultural
standard in Saul and the county as
a whole.
