GIRLS ARE LOOKING GOOD
UNDER 16 CHAMPIONSHIP
Downpatrick 2-6 Saval 5-6
On Saturday 12th June Saval ventured
into the unknown with an away championship
game against a highly fancied Downpatrick
side which included Down Senior star
Kyla Trainor. This was the first ever
meeting of the sides at this level.
Saval dominated the majority of the
first half scoring 4-5 to Downpatrick’s
1-2 and could easily have been further
ahead with a number of good scoring
chances squandered.
In the second half Downpatrick came
more in to the game and scored a goal
which lifted them and sustained pressure
was put on the Saval backs. The Saval
backline were resolute in their defending
and kept the Downpatrick forwards
at bay. Saval had the final say with
a well taken goal near the end by
Natasha Lennon for a comfortably win.
This is a great result for this young
Saval side which takes them into the
quarter finals of the championship
and as the girls are still in contention
for league honours things are looking
good. For the record 17 of the last
week’s squad of 19 are all eligible
again next year.
Best for Saval were Christine McCarthy
who was sound in goals, the full backline
of Siobhan Kinney, Grace Cole and
Laura Fitzpatrick were just brilliant.
In the midfield Aine Crozier and Vicki
Lennon had it much their own way.
Up front Natasha Lennon, Niamh Millar
and Lorraine Havern were always a
threat.

all and also to Treanor Travel who
were reliable and as accommodating
as ever.
