Under 16 Girls through to the
Quarter finals of the Championship .
Saval 7-12 Burren 6-4
In a high scoring
game at Nan Sands Park the home side
came out on top with a well deserved
win against near neighbours Burren.
It was a game Saval led from start
to finish. Natashya Lennon opened
the scoring with a fine point. This
was quickly followed by a Lorraine
Havern goal. Ashleen McEvoy then
struck with two goals in quick
succession to put Saval in the
comfort zone. Burren on a rare
venture into the Saval half opened
their scoring with a point.
This was quickly cancelled out by a
Niamh Millar point for the home
side. The brilliant Lorraine Havern
hit two class goals which should
have sealed the game for Saval
however in the last ten minutes of
the half Burren on three attacks hit
three goals.
They were to add a futher point
which would give them hope.
A long range point by Saval’s Vicki
Lennon lifted Saval once more and
they finished the half with a point
apiece from Catherine Digney and
Natashya Lennon to leave
the
half time score: Saval 5-5
Burren 3-2
The second half was almost a mirror
image of the first with Saval in the
ascendancy from the start. Natashya
Lennon once again scored a fine
goal. Saval went on to score four
more points before Burren came back
once again with two points of their
own .This was shortly followed by a
fortunate goal by the visitors.
Another was to follow but this did
not deter the Saval girls who
replied almost immediately with an
Ashleen McEvoy point and another
great goal from Natahya Lennon .
Burren stuck to the task and were
reward with another fortunate goal
but it was the home side that had
the final say with two points from
our left-footer Niamh Millar.
Saval had good performances
throughout the team notably:
Danielle Quinn who was deputising
for regular keeper Christine
McCarthy could not be faulted for
any of the goals conceded, Grace
Cole at full back had an outstanding
game. The midfielders Viki Lennon
and Niamh McGowan won their fair
share of possession and supplied
good ball into the forwards. All six
forwards got on the score board with
Natashya Lennon and Lorraine Havern
always a danger.
Overall this was
a very good win against a vastly
improved Burren side. The girls know
there is still more work to be done
before they meet the winners of the
Bright / Aughlisnafin clash. The
quarter final is scheduled to take
place in Nan Sands Park on Wednesday
3rd August.
Training continues on Thursdays
7-00pm to 8-30pm.
