Successful Year for Saval Ladies

2005 has been another very successful year for ladies football in Saval and the playing feats of the girls in the Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Junior teams augurs very well for the future of the club.

Under 12

The Under 12 team, under the management of Edmund Lennon and John McCarthy, won the prestigious Castlewellan Shield.

This was a magnificent feat given that the majority of the side are eligible again next year.

Under 14

The Under 14 side, again under Edmund and John’s management won the Down League for the third year in succession. This is truly a remarkable achievement. Earlier in the year they won the Teconnaught Tournament. The Under 14 side has never been beaten in Down Football since it’s formation in 2003.

Under 16

The Under 16 side, managed by Anthony Crozier and Damien Lennon had a very successful season going all the way to the league semi-final having won South Down .They also made it through to the Down Under 16 Championship Final where they were narrowly beaten by a strong Bryansford team.

SAVAL LADIES MAKE HISTORY

TO TAKE THE DOWN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

This was with out doubt the highlight of the year for Saval ‘s Ladies Football. On the 11th September on a sunny Pairc Esler Newry , a young Saval team containing 10 of the successful Under 16 side were up against Intermediate side Tullylish who were cast iron favourites for the Murray Cup.

No one appeared to give Saval any chance but the girls went out and put on a tremendous display of skill and determination and were deserved winners.

An added bonus was that Saval’s Rachel O’Hare picked up the Player of the Match award which was selected by the Down Senior Ladies Manager Gregory McGonigle.

The girls also did themselves proud by finishing second in the league to a very strong Bredagh side. They will now be competing at the higher grade next season.

The Junior management of Anthony Crozier and Damien Lennon can certainly look forward to further progress next year.

Saval GAC would also like to take this opportunity to thank sponsors Havern Bros for their continued support of Ladies Football.
