Under 16 Girls Start Season with a Win

Saval 7- 8 Carryduff 1- 4

The girls started the season with a convincing win over a determined Carryduff side. The visitors opened the scoring with a well taken point which was quickly cancelled out by a similar score from Natashya Lennon. A great goal from corner forward Colleen Lennon settled Saval down and they began to play the fast flowing football they are capable of. Futher goals from Eimear Kane and Natashya Lennon put the home side in the ascendency. To their credit Carryduff came back with a deserved goal of their own and added two further points

Eimear Kane pointed for Saval and debutant Catherine McGrath also got a point to leave the half time score Saval 3-3 Carryduff 1-3

The second half Saval dominated throughout restricting Carryduff to a minor score. The highlight of the half was a Maeve Mullen pile-driver of a goal from 20 metres which give a very good Carryduff keeper no chance. Saval were to add futher scores; four points from Captain Niamh Millar, two goals from Natashya Lennon and in the dying minutes Jackie Crozier also got on the scoreboard with a goal. Full Time Score: Saval 7-8 Carryduff 1-4

Overall this was a solid performance from the girls who showed plenty of heart and got their rewards with a fine victory over a good Carryduff side. Saval’s star player was Rachel Havern who had a fantastic game in the halfback line. A brilliant young player who has a great future in the game. Others to shine were Louise McEvoy and Mairead Havern in the backs and Danielle Galloghly in the forwards. A big absentee from Sunday’s game was ace forward Lorraine Havern who had a bout of tonsillitis, we wish her a speedy recovery
