League Game - Sunday 20 May Saval
5-7 Teconnaught 0-5
The girls got their first win of
the season with a fine victory
over East Down side Teconnaught.
Saval were in control from start
to finish with early goals from
Rachel O’Hare, Maeve Mullen and
Eimear Digney.
The second half was much the same
with Annie Havern adding 2 goals.
This was a good performance by the
young Saval side with 10 out of
the panel of 20 all playing Under
12 football.
Dearbhlagh O’Hare was excellent
goals, the defenders Rachel
McNally, Emma Walsh, Niamh Turley,
Gemma Cull, Adele Travers and
Raychel McEvoy were superb, and
the midfielders of Maeve Mullen
and Catherine Bannon were just
great. The young guns up front of
Colleen Lennon, Lynette Dodds,
Orlagh McLogan, Eimear Digney
Annie Havern and left footer
Rachel O’Hare all played well,
also not forgetting the young
players who came on Aishling
Wylie, Ruth Havern, Marie Clare
McNally and Leah Clare Lennon.

Senior Girls
League
– Saturday 19 May – Downpatrick
3-11 Saval 6-4
Saval travelled to Downpatrick in
confident mood following their
fantastic win over Castlewellan
the previous week. The team was
much changed with Niamh Lennon
stateside and Michele Fearon and
Emma Madine on the Tour of Down.
This meant that starting places
for Anna Madine, Natashya Lennon
and Lorraine Havern all members of
the Under 16 team.
The first half Saval were slow to
settle with Downpatrick racing
into a two goal lead, points from
Catherine McConville and our
Under 16 captain Niamh Millar kept
Saval in contention . Downpatrick
rarely missed a scoring
opportunity whilst Saval was
guilty of numerous misses. Two
late goals from Natashya and a
point from Niamh Millar left just
4 points between the sides at the
interval. Half Time score:
Downpatrick 2-7 Saval 2-3
The second half was a mirror image
of the first with Downpatrick
taking their scores which included
a goal and Saval not. Catherine
McConville hit a great goal to
keep Saval in touch .Going into
the last quarter Saval were behind
and it looked like it was going to
be a home victory. Quick thinking
and a quick free-kick by Natashya
Lennon rocketed to the back of the
Downpatrick net. Saval was back in
the game and the onslaught of the
Downpatrick defence begun. A point
by Natashya meant that Saval were
just one behind, chance after
chance was cleared by the home
side until finally Natashya once
again got through and she made no
mistake burying the ball to the
net, less than a minute later the
referee blew the whistle Saval had
won by two points. This was a
gutsy performance and all credit
to the team for their never say
die attitude. Notably performers
were Joanne Lively at full back;
Lynsey Cunningham at midfield had
a great “50” minutes and one of
her best games in the Saval
jersey.
Catherine Digney and Lorraine
Havern were livewires up front and
caused havoc when in possession,
and the experience of Catherine
McConville in the forward line was
an asset however it was Natashya
Lennon who put in a five star
performance and was the best
player on view.
