Senior Girls Bow Out of Championship
Sunday 2 September – Clonduff 1-15 Saval 2-10
Burren was the venue for this rollercoaster of a game.
Clonduff are the current County Champions and were hot favourites for this tie whilst our girls are the young pretenders.
Saval made the early running but could not get the scores whilst Clonduff missed little. At half time the girls were down 7 points with the score 1-10 to 1-3 in Clonduff’s favour.
The second half it was Saval’s turn to show the large crowd what they are capable of and began to peg back Clonduff. Saval’s Lynsey Cunningham was sinned binned for ten minutes. This spurred the girls on and Clonduff were rocking.
They were having big problems getting the ball out of their half and Saval were getting the scores and getting closer, a blatant foul on Saval’s Lorraine Havern should have resulted in a penalty, but it wasn’t given. Saval were now just 2 points behind but time was not on their side and it was Clonduff who progressed to the semi-finals.
The girls can be proud of what they have achieved this year which is their first season in Senior Football. They finished third in the league and put up a good show in the championship and they now can earn a well deserved rest.
