Bredagh
U14 Hurlers win against Shamrocks
30/06/2003
Newry Shamrocks 2-4 Bredagh 9-3, S'rocks
June 20th
This was an opportunity to gauge the
Breadgh U14 team had developed since
their first competitive outing: the
County Feile back in early May. On that
occasion they defeated this same Shamrocks
team by a solitary point after extra
time in the final. On Friday night the
winning margin was 20 points and this
is a credit to the hard work and dedication
these young hurlers have shown in the
intervening weeks. Captain Eoin Costello,
despite injury, played through the pain
barrier and notched up a personal tally
of 5-2. He played at full forward while
Niall Colton deputised magnificently
at midfield along with the brilliant
Cormac Hughes. Mark Devlin in goals
had another sound 60 minutes and Paddy
Woods, Rowan Smart and Osin Quinn were
outstanding in defence. Up front Costello
had able assistants in Donal Hughes,
Niall Nolan and Conall Doherty.
By half time the writing was on the
wall for Newry as they trailed 5-2 to
1-3 despite having wind advantage, Costello
having bagged 3-2 and a goal each from
the Hughes brothers. Newry to their
credit came back strongly in the second
half but Bredagh held it together to
win comfortably in the end. Bredagh
took some great scores, with one of
the best being the last goal, Niall
Nolan’s flick to the corner of the net
from an angled cross by Conal Doherty.
Glasdrumman make it two wins in a week

ACFL Div 2 Glasdrumman 0-12 Newry Shamrocks
0-10 - 06/06/2003
Newry Shamrocks made the journey to
the Quarter Road on Friday night to
play a very confident and determined
Glasdrumman team following their recent
wins over Ballyholland and Attical .

Penalty
miss but it's all over early on
28/05/2003
AC Minor FC:
Shamrocks 1-06 An Riocht 4-18
Despite missing an early penalty An
Riocht settled quickly and had the result
sewn up by the end of the first quarter.
Pick of the scores were an Aidan O'Hanlon
point off an exquisite Martin Clarke
pass, a Rory O'Hanlon goal taken under
heavy pressure, and an Aidan O'Hanlon
point after Paddy Cordell robbed a defender
on the way out. Shamrocks rallied at
the start of the second half but Rory
completed his hat-trick to ensure there
would be no upset.
Warrenpoint's
unbeaten run continues 26/05/2003
ACFL Div 2:
Shamrocks 0-11 Warrenpoint 2-06
Warrenpoint one of only two teams to
remain undefeated this session continued
their goof form Division 4 leaders Glenn
traveled to bottom of the table Ballykinlar
hoping to get the two points to keep
them at the top of the table two points
in front of St Johns who have a game
in hand. Glenn came away from this potentially
tough encounter with a 20 point victory.
M Lennon and O Conlan were the chielf
architects of this heavy victory.

Hurlers win Feile!! 12/05/2003
Bredagh hurlers stunned the Down hurling
fraternity by winning the Shield at
the Down Feile on Saturday, May 10th
in Liatroim. On their very first appearance
at the competition, the lads from
Belfast really got 'tore in' and eventually
overcame the holders Newry Shamrocks
after extra-time in a thrilling final
to claim their very first piece of
silverware in Hurling.
