St John’s Notes -
29th August 2005
The
camogie team outplayed Longstone last
Monday evening, winning by six points
and maintaining their unbeaten league
record. They entertained a Liatroim
selection on Monday evening in a
challenge as preparation for two tough
league games against Ballela (who have
won the championship and are pushing for
the league title).
The
under-16s and under-12s both progressed
to their championship finals after a
semi-final double header at
Loughinisland on Friday. The under-12s
were first in action and overcame a
talented Saul side before the under-16s
upset the odds with a well-deserved
victory over league winners Bryansford
to set up a final clash with either
Downpatrick or Kilcoo. If they can
reproduce Friday’s form they have
nothing to fear from either side. The
two finals would certainly make for a
great double header.
The
under-16s played their last league game
last Tuesday when they entertained
Bredagh. The sides shared the spoils,
although the Johnnies might have won the
game if a couple of frees towards the
end of the game had gone a little bit
straighter.
The
under-12s have one outstanding league
game to play at home to Loughinisland –
the team have the incentive of knowing
that a win could set up a league
play-off against Kilcoo.
The
under-14s didn’t have a game last week
but still have still league games
against Drumaness (home) and Kilclief
(away) as they hope to close in on this
title.
The
under-10s will entertain Carryduff on
Saturday – more details at training this
evening.
The
seniors went out of the championship
when they came up against favourites
Newry Mitchell’s in the quarter-final in
Mayobridge on Sunday. The management
must now try to pick the team up before
their final league game, which is a home
tie with St Paul’s
In
addition to the juveniles getting to
championship finals there are a couple
of other signs about the club that
Summer is turning to Autumn. Eoin Walsh
is looking for Scor performers – so if
you are a singers, a dancer, a reciter,
a musician or a quiz buffs – he’d like
to hear from you. Or even is your talent
is decidedly “left field” there’s a
place for you as a novelty act.
The
other sign is that there will be a Poker
night on Friday September 9th.
If
anyone is interested in a trip to Croke
Park on Sunday October 2nd to
see the TnaG Ladies Football finals they
should contact Kevin McGlynn (4481
1876), Pep Keenan (4377 8712) or Jackie
Quinn. (I saw Dublin ladies beat their
Tyrone counterparts on Saturday and was
impressed).
I
understand that an order has gone in for
a set of jerseys for our own ladies team
– so there is progress being made in
this area also.
The
next committee meeting will be on Monday
12th at 9.00pm.
