St John’s Notes -
31st Oct 2005
The ladies football team played in and
thoroughly enjoyed their second ever
challenge game when they travelled to
Drumgath to play under floodlights last
Tuesday evening. Even the wet pitch
couldn’t dampen their enthusiasm. A
bright start set them up for a 3-07 to
1-09 win. Everyone played well with
Kathleen McCann outstanding in goals
while Kelly-Ann McCullough and Siobhan
McCann had great games further outfield.
That fixture completed the first
successful season for the ladies
St John’s were well and ably represented
in the first Scor na nÓg semi-final on
Friday past in Castlewellan. Solo
singers Martina Cunningham and Daniel
McKay and the Novelty Act all now
progress to the East Down Finals (in
Finnis on Sunday 20th at
5.00pm).
The second semi-final is this Sunday in
Saul at 5.00pm, and again St John’s will
have several representatives.
The juvenile presentation afternoon on
20th November has been
brought forward to 1.00pm to accommodate
those competing in the Scor na nOg
final, and those wishing to support
them. After such a successful year for
all the under-age teams we have a lot to
celebrate this time.
The AGM
will be held on Sunday 27th
November. This is the most important day
in the club’s calendar as it is the
occasion when the membership determine
the direction of the club for the next
year and elect the officers to steer the
club in that direction. Whatever other
faults we may have we are a democratic
organisation. Notice of motions, and
nominations must be with the secretary
21 days before the AGM, i.e. they must
be with Paddy O’Neill by 13th
November.
There
will also be a Pre-AGM meeting/course on
Monday 7th November at
7.30pm. The purpose of this course is to
look at how the club can be best
administered if it is to carry on with,
and build upon, its success in the
coming years. In addition to a full
turnout of committee members we would
also like to see some fresh faces. There
are many people in the community who
would like to contribute to the on-going
success of the club. However, many of
these have other commitments which would
rule them out from making a long-term
commitment but who would be able to take
on smaller roles or to help out
occasionally. Lets face it some people
would love to contribute but wouldn’t be
seen dead on a committee. This evening
is for them. Monday evening will give us
all a chance to see what needs to be
done and who might be available to take
on some share of the work.
The
second payment is now due for Gift Aid
contributors who elected to pay
annually. Direct debit contributors need
take no action.

October were 8, 16, 17 and 19 and there
were two £10 winners. The jackpot is

November.
