Bredagh set standard for St John’s:
St John’s 0-05 v 1-14 Bredagh
|
Mon 24th Apr
Playing against the wind in the opening period Bredagh were
slightly the better side and led by 1-6
to 0-4 at the interval. Playing with the
wind, the visitors were far and away the
better team as they raced away to win
comfortably.
St John’s were ahead twice in the early
exchanges with points from Barry Russell
and Damien Murray both never for long as
Bredagh replied with points of their
own. They then goaled to take an
advantage that was never really
threatened as a long ball was fisted
onto Enda Gormley who finished coolly.
Bredagh added another couple of points before Eugene O’Boyle
pulled on back with a free. Bredagh
fired a couple of wides before that
pattern repeated itself; two points for
the visitors and one for St John’s (from
Damien Murray), to leave the interval
score 1-06 to 0-04.
Things got worse for the Johnnies in the second period – they
were under pressure throughout and
barely able to get shooting
opportunities. The
St John’s defence did well to keep the scores down as Enda Gormley pulled the
strings for Bredagh. He had the vision
to see the runs made by the other
forwards and the touch to deliver the
telling pass. He also slotted over a
couple of exhibition frees, and took
scores from play as well. The last score
of the half went to
St John’s,
their only score of the half with a free
converted by John Fegan.
