Night on Friday 12th January.
Our Set Dancing team will be performing
at the Ulster
Scór na nÓg final
in Silverbridge,
County Armagh on Saturday 20th
January. There will be a training course
for prospective and returning referees
on Monday 5th February. Our
second Race Day will be held at
Downpatrick Racecourse on Sunday 18th
March.
As we come towards the end of 2006 it’s
a good time to look back over the year
we’ve just had. We have had a number of
outstanding successes. Our camogie team
won their first championship and came
within a whisker of making it a double,
just missing out on the league title in
a playoff. Our Ladies football team made
their debut this season and our Set
Dancers finished the year as they had
started by lifting the
County Scor na nÓg title and now go
forward to the
Ulster
final.
Another great success is that after our
second playing field will be opened for
business in 2007. The opening of this
facility will be a terrific way to
celebrate our 30th
anniversary. We owe a big debt of
gratitude to various people who have
made this project happen; a number of
people have there regularly forsaken the
easy chair to secure first rate
facilities for our club and our young
people for years to come. In particular,
thanks for this much go to our
fundraisers and to our Gift Aid
contributors.
We are grateful to all the players and
competitors who represented
St John’s
in the past year. Our thanks go to those
of all abilities and all ages who
represented us this year in camogie,
ladies football and men’s football, and
also to all those who have represented
St John’s in the various Scor and Scor
na nÓg categories. We have also been
represented on a number of county and
divisional committees and by coaches
working with the under-age development
squads.
We also thank our referees and are
particularly pleased to see some new
faces working in that capacity with the
Go Games age groups. We thank all the
coaches and mentors who gave of their
time and expertise for the benefit of
our club, and the development of our
players, especially our young players.
There are many other workers too, whose
contribution is all too often
overlooked. We have cooks and cleaners,
gatemen and doormen, umpires and ground
staff, bar staff and tea makers and many
more. We wouldn’t be where we are
without your contributions.
No matter how good something is it can
always get better, and in our case we
can improve with contributions from new
faces. So if you can help in any way, as
a fundraiser or as an organiser, as a
coach or as a player, in the spotlight
or behind the scenes please come along
and put your shoulder to the wheel. As
we look towards 2007 always the old
maxim still holds true – the more you
put into something the more you get out
of it. With your help we will achieve
even more success and growth for our 30th
anniversary.
To close I would like to wish all you
passed through the gates of St John’s a
very Merry Christmas, and hope to see
you again as we continue our success in
2007.
