St John's Notes 30th Jan 2006

St John’s Notes         30th January

Our minors will the first team to take to the field this year. Their league season opens this Sunday (5th) with a home game against Loughinisland at 12.00. Best of luck to our team.

Calling potential David Baileys and Lord Lichfields. We have a vacancy for a cameraman or woman to act as club photographer for the year. We’d like a photograph each and every team that takes to the field in St John’s colours this year as well as action shots. There could be job share possibilities with this post – contact Kevin McGlynn (1181 1876).

Senior Presentation Night is this Saturday (4th) in the clubrooms. Dinner will be at 8.30pm with Music afterwards by Divine Harmony. Bernard Rice (4377 1207) may have a few tickets remaining but numbers are definitely limited.

Congratulations to Kevin Savage on his selection to the Ireland Masters International Rules panel. Kevin played for Down Masters (over 40s) last year and made quite an impact. He has been an outstanding player for the club for more years than he might care to remember and this honour is richly deserved.

Paul Kelly will take on the post of Senior Manager for the incoming year. Shorty needs no introduction around these parts having given many years of service as a player. He is well respected by the current players and will hopefully give the team a further push towards success this year.

Under-14 football training is on Saturdays at 11.00am. Under-16 and minor training is at 11.30am on Sunday morning. Under-12 football squad is on Sunday afternoon at 3.00pm.

There is a course for prospective referees starting on February 6th – our game couldn’t go on without referees so hopefully someone in the club will consider contributing in this manner. Contact Paddy O’Neill (4377 0927) for further details. Paddy also has copies of the Down yearbook for sale at £7.

Membership for 2006 is now due – the fees have been set at £35 for playing members, £15 for non-playing members, £10 for minors, £5 for juveniles, £40 for families, and free for OAPs – please see Registrar Bernard Rice (4377 1207). The fees are the same for male and female members.

The lottery numbers for 26th were 2, 17, 20 and 22. There were 3 £10 winners and the jackpot now stands at £1,350.

The club will be holding a fund-raising Race Day at Downpatrick Racecourse on Sunday 19th March so keep that date free in your diaries. The Chevy’s will be playing in the marquee after the races so it promises to be an excellent day out.

The next poker night is on 10th February with a £1,000 jackpot.
