St John’s Notes 11th
July
We extend our congratulations to Kilcoo
under-14s, players and management, on
their wonderful achievement in winning
the All Ireland Feile Peil na nÓg.
Our senior footballers will be in action
in the Connolly Cup at Ballykinlar when
they play Ardglass on Tuesday (11th).
If they negotiate this hurdle
successfully they will be back in action
in the semi-final on Monday (17th).
The under-14s will certainly be hoping
the seniors advance so that they will
get to play in the Damien MacCaisin
shield (seven-a-side) on Monday as well.
In any event the seniors will be back in
league action when we travel to
neighbours Aughlisnafin on Sunday 23rd
and then we entertain Bredagh on Friday
28th.
Our reserves take a break now also until
July 23rd when they are at
home to Ardglass. They finished off
before the break with a home win over
Bright and an away defeat at Bredagh.
Our under-16s’ A championship quarter
final away to Bryansford was postponed
last week with no new date set as yet.
We return to league action with a trip
to Kilcoo on 25th July.
Our under-14s were due to play
Bryansford last Friday in what would
have been their last league game before
the holiday break but that was postponed
as well. Our scheduled return to league
action is not until 3rd
August when we are at home to Kilcoo
(the corresponding fixture away to
Kilcoo is still to be rescheduled).

Our under-10s travelled to An Riocht for
their tournament on Saturday. The team
blew hot and cold – there were some
great phases of football but there were
times as well when ever pass seemed to
go to an opponent. After three group
games we got a bye to the shield
semi-finals where we came unstuck as
Longstone capitalised on our mistakes.
Gavin Lively was a rock in defence
throughout ably supported by captain
Gavin Marmion while Sam Walsh, William
Kelly and Barry McAnulty played well in
the middle third. Training for the
under-10s will return on Saturday 15th
July (10.30 to 11.30am).
Lightening does strike twice. The
lottery jackpot has been won for the
second week running. The jackpot went
twice last autumn as well but there was
about six weeks between those wins. The
numbers were 6, 10, 19 and 22 and three
players matched three and won £10 as
well. The jackpot is now back to £1,000.
In
addition to the usual club merchandise
(jerseys, tracksuits, drill tops, etc)
Pep Keenan also has a limited number of
polo shirts in adult sizes with the club
crest available (028 4377 8712).

Many
thanks to the under-14s (players and
mentors) who took time out after
training last week to gather stones of
the bank at the new field. They will
surely enjoy the fruits of their labour
in the years to come. Things are shaping
up very well with the new field and all
signs are promising for a handover on
schedule for the New Year.
