St John’s Notes 26th
July
Our camogie team continued their
promotion drive with a comfortable win
over Aghaderg (5-09 v 0-03) with great
performances from Sileen McDonald,
Martina Cunningham and Kelly-Anne
McCullough. We have two postponed
fixtures to be rescheduled (at home to
both Dromara and Liatroim) as well as
three league games listed for August
(away to Ballygalget on 7th,
at home to Darragh Cross on 14th
and away to Dromara on the 21st).
Our Ladies Football team follow on from
their victory over St Paul’s with two
home games. They entertain Ardglass this
evening (Wed) and then take on St
Michael’s on Saturday. The week after
they face St Michael’s also – in the
championship.
We hope to bring you some news of summer
activities for juvenile girls soon
(football, camogie, etc).
Our senior footballers returned to
action on Monday when they took on
neighbours Aughlisnafin. That is
followed by two away games in quick
succession, we travel to Bredagh on
Friday and then to St Paul’s on Monday.
Our reserves were back in action on
Sunday when they were at home to
Ardglass. They have a bye this Sunday
before travelling to Saul on 6th
August.
Our minors will return to championship
action on Wednesday 2nd
August when they travel to the winners
of the Bredagh v St Joseph’s (Ballykinlar
and Dundrum combine) preliminary round
contest.
Our under-16s’ postponed A championship
quarter final away to Bryansford will be
played tomorrow (Thursday). We will have
had a chance to shake off the holiday
cobwebs when we played away to Kilcoo in
the league last night (Tuesday). We also
provide the neutral venue for the
championship meeting between Kilcoo and
Downpatrick on Thursday (27th).
Our under-16s will also be competing in
the Peter Walsh tournament in Bryansford
on Saturday.
Our under-14s are not scheduled to
return to league action until 3rd
August
when we are at home to Kilcoo. They have
two outstanding fixtures to be
rescheduled, away to Kilcoo and to
Bryansford.
Our under-12s make the short journey to
neighbours Dromara for the first Go
Games after the holidays on Sunday.
Our under-10s travelled to Liatroim this
Saturday to take part in the Pat Doyle
Memorial Tournament. We would like to
thank the Doyle family for their
invitation to this well run tournament
and to thank them and the Liatroim club
for their hospitality. We were probably
in the tougher group as the three teams
we played at that stage all advanced to
the semi-finals, and then we encountered
the eventual winners Liatriom in the
knock-out stages. It is back to training
this Saturday (10.30 to 11.30am), before
we host the next under-10 Go Games Blitz
on August 5th.
The lottery numbers for 20th
July were 2, 6, 20 and 26. There were no
winners this time and the jackpot is now
£1,100.
There
will be a Cul Camp at St John’s from Mon
14th to 18th
August. Application forms can be
downloaded from the county website
www.downgaa.net and can be given to
any
St
John’s mentor with a cheque for £35. Early reports from clubs which have already run
camps have been very positive.
Its good
to see that Kevin Savage hasn’t lost the
touch, scoring two points in the drawn
game between Down Masters and their
Tyrone counterparts (1-7 v 0-10).
Club
shorts and socks are available from Pep
Keenan (028 4377 8712).
