St John’s Notes 2nd Aug
Our senior footballers had
a comfortable win over neighbours Aughlisnafin
last Monday (3-12 v 2-02) but found the going
much tougher on Thursday away to Bredagh (2-16
v 0-08) . We were away again, to St Paul’s
on Monday, and will travel again this Friday
to taken on Ballykinlar.
There were conflicting reports
from our reserves’ game at home to Ardglass.
One report, from someone who missed some of
the first half was adamant that the Johnnies
had prevailed. Other reports said that Ardglass
were narrow victors. As it turned out both versions
told part of the whole story. Ardglass did win,
but St John’s were the dominant force
for most of the game. We had a bye last Sunday
but travel to Saul this Sunday.
Our minors return to championship
action this evening (Wed) when they travel to
Bredagh (who overcame St Joseph’s in the
preliminary round).
Our Ladies Footballers produced
some great football, especially in the second
half, scoring 1-07 on the way, at home to Ardglass
last Wednesday but it was the visitors who came
away with the league points. This Saturday we
travel to face St Michael’s in our first
ever championship game.
Our camogie team have two postponed
fixtures to be rescheduled (at home to both
Dromara and Liatroim) as well as three league
games listed for August (away to Ballygalget
on 7th, at home to Darragh Cross on 14th and
away to Dromara on the 21st).
We hope to bring you some news
of summer activities for juvenile girls soon
(football, camogie, etc).
Our under-16s’ put up
a brave fight before getting knocked out of
the A championship at the quarter-final stage.
The tie was very close throughout but Bryansford
managed to get a few scores ahead in the second
half. As St John’s chased the scores to
try to restore parity Bryansford were able to
get scores on the break to so that the final
scoreline flattered the home team (2-14 v 1-06).
Our under-16s competed in the
Peter Walsh tournament on Saturday. They got
the better of Armagh’s Clann naGael in
the group stages but went down to Loughinisland
and hosts Bryansford. Our under-16s are due
back in league action when we entertain Mayobridge
on Tuesday.
We will be taking part in the
Og Sport competition on Saturday in Carryduff
Our under-14s return to league
action this Thursday when we are at home to
Kilcoo. They have two outstanding fixtures to
be rescheduled, away to Kilcoo and to Bryansford.
Our under-12s played their
part in an excellent game of football in Dromara
on Sunday morning. They are going to Castlewellan
to take part in their tournament this Saturday
and going to Kilcoo the Saturday after.
From this Friday, under-10
training moves from its Saturday morning slot
to Friday evening at 5.00pm.
We will be hosting an under-10
Go Games Blitz this Saturday. This begins at
10.00am so all players should be at the field
by 9.30 am.
There was one £10 winner
last week when the lottery numbers were 2, 11,
23 and 24. The jackpot is now £1,150.

St John’s from Mon 14th to 18th August.

have already run camps have been very positive.

The next management committee
meeting is on Monday 7th August.
There will be a Poker Night
in the clubrooms on Friday 11th August.
There will be a Sports Day
on Sunday 20th August. There will be a meeting
tonight at 9.00pm to organise this and associated
events. There will be further get togethers
