St John’s Notes 6th
March
Eleven young Johnnies will be travelling
to Brewster Park, Enniskillen tomorrow
as their school, St Malachy’s, play two
Ulster Finals. Conor and Ryan Flanagan,
Conor Braniff, Gerard McAnulty and David
Milling are on the under-16 panel while
Declan Gilmore, Darren Savage, Conor
Morgan, Daniel McKay, Hugh Flanagan and
Darren Burns are in the under-14s squad.
We wish them all the very best of luck.
Last Sunday’s minor game away to
Drumaness was postponed. The team return
to home turf when they host Dromara on
this Sunday.
Under-14s training has moved to 12.15pm
from this Saturday. Training will
probably switch to a weeknight as the
evenings get longer. All players who
haven’t done so already are reminded to
bring their £5 annual membership fee
this Saturday. The under-14s management
will be happy with the team’s
performance in their first challenge
match, away to Drumaness, on Saturday.
They showed quality in depth in all
areas of the field, and its likely that
competition for places will be fierce.
The
evenings are busy already, with the
senior footballers out on
Mondays
and Thursdays, the minors and under-16s
out on Tuesdays (in Castlewellan) and
the ladies football squad out on
Wednesdays. The ladies also go for a run
at Castlewellan Lake at the weekends.
There have two sessions, so that one or
other will suit most people, on Saturday
at 4.00pm and on Sunday at 11.00am. New
members are always welcome to come along
for the exercise and the craic. Under-12
training is on Sundays at 3.00pm.
Training for the under-10s and under-8s
will resume on Saturday 25th
March – but players can practice at home
and at school in the meantime.
Membership for 2006 is now overdue – the
fees have been set at £35 for playing
members, £20 for students, £15 for
non-playing members, £10 for minors, £5
for juveniles, £40 for families, and
free for OAPs – please see Registrar
Bernard Rice (4377 1207). The fees are
the same for male and female members.
The
Race Day at Downpatrick is just around
the corner (Sunday 19th
March). Many thanks to those who have
put so much work into making sure that
this will be a success. There are still
some tickets available for the draw
which will take place after the last
race. The Chevy’s will be playing in the
marquee after the draw which will round
off what promises to be an excellent day
out.
Could
those taking tables and selling tickets
please ensure than all monies and any
unsold tickets are returned to the
organisers as soon as possible.
Last
Thursday’s lottery numbers were 5, 15,
20 and 26 and there were two £10 winners
who matched three. The jackpot now
stands at £1,600.
The
latest edition of “Naomh Eoin News”
should have arrived last week. This
issue reflects on presentation night,
carries a feature on “Go Games” and
looks forward to the coming season. If
your copy hasn’t arrived, or if you
would like to get on the mailing list
(£5 pa) please contact Kevin McGlynn
(4481 1876). We can also e-mail this to
friends overseas who may wish to keep in
touch.
The
will be a Poker Night in the clubrooms
this Friday. A light supper will be
served.
