St John’s Notes
There will be a rather unusual
“All-Ireland” in our backyard this
weekend when the All Ireland and
International Sheep Shearing Competition
will be held in the Seeconnell
Equestrian Centre. Hopefully they will
be blessed with dry weather and good
crowds.
Our camogie team continued their winning
sequence with a great performance in
beating Ballygalget (7-04 v 3-03) last
Monday. This victory was built on a
solid defence as the girls held the
visitors scoreless in the second half.
We travelled to Darragh Cross on Monday
and are at home to Dromara next Monday.

Our ladies football team were beaten by
Annaclone last time out but were denied
the chance to make amends when our home
game against Newry Shamrocks was rained
off. We had a wasted trip to St
Michael’s last week and entertain
Carryduff on Thursday 1st
June.
Our seniors had a comfortable win over
neighbours Aughlisnafin last Friday
(8-14 v 0-03), but can expect a tougher
game when they travel to Bredagh on
Friday.
Our reserves aren’t scheduled to play
again until they travel to Carryduff on
Sunday 11th June, but some of
the postponed matches have to be
rescheduled in the interval (away to
Darragh Cross and Dundrum, at home to
Bright).
Our minors still have two postponed
fixtures to be rescheduled, against
Teconnaught (home) and Drumaness (away).
Although Loughinisland have deservedly
won the league it would be a pity if
these games don’t get played as they
would be good preparation for the
championship when we play Kilcoo at home
in the first round at home on Wednesday
21st June.
Our under-16s hosted Castlewellan on
Saturday afternoon in a very
entertaining game. We fielded a young
team which played with a lot of verve.
In the end honours were even (2-06 v
3-03), which was probably a fair result.
St John’s’ scorers were Ryan Gibney 1-2,
Darren Savage 1-1, Gerard McAnulty 0-1,
Martin Keenan 0-1 and Conor Braniff 0-1.
We travel to Bryansford next Tuesday.
Out under-14s had a bye in the league
last week and travel to Castlewellan
tomorrow evening (Thursday).
The under-12s Go Game at home to
Kilclief was postponed as Kilclief were
unable to travel. I presume that there
will be no game this Sunday either
because of the Down v Donegal game. Best
wishes to Kevin Keenan who will be
lining out for the red and blacks in the
half-time primary schools game.
There will be no training for the
under-10s this week. Instead we’ll be
taking part in the first U-10 Go Games
blitz in Liatroim. Players should meet
at
St John’s
at 12.15. They should bring a water
bottle, something to eat and £1-50 for
the bus. We hope to play four games and
anticipate being back at the club about
3.30pm.
The lottery numbers for 25th
were 10, 20, 22 and 26. There was one
£10 winner and the jackpot now stands at
£2,200.
