St John’s Notes 1st
Nov
The St John’s camogie team have done us
proud all season and although the League
title went to Liatroim after Sunday’s
playoff at Ballela, they continued to do
so. They were disappointed not to add to
their championship title but it wasn’t
to be as Liatroim’s strong second half
performance proved to be too much to
handle. The first half was evenly
balanced, with the Johnnies just about
deserving their narrow lead (2-1 v 1-2)
with both goalkeepers having played
impressively to keep the scores down.
Liatroim were able to introduce fresh
legs in the second period and this
proved to be the difference as Liatroim
went on to claim the league title. They
were comfortable in the second half but
were flattered at the end by the 4-09 to
2-3 scoreline.
Our juvenile presentation night will be
on Friday 3rd November at
7.00pm. As usual there will be a
collection at the door for a local
children’s charity.
Pep Keenan (4377 8712) will have a
selection of St John’s gear at the
presentation night so that you will get
the chance to check sizes, etc. A £10
deposit will secure any item for
Christmas. Pep will also be running a
Christmas club between now and the end
of the year.
If you would like to get involved in any
way with the juvenile set-up, perhaps as
a coach or helper, please contact Rory
McMullan (4377 1216) or Shan Brennan
(4481 1684).
St John’s will have five entries in the
second Scór na nÓg semi-final in Saul
this Sunday. Our entries are in
instrumental music, ballad singing, solo
singing, recitation and set dance. Best
of luck to all – hopefully we’ll make it
through to the East Down final in
Dundrum on Sunday week.
We will be joining forces with Dromara
to field an under-21 team in the
upcoming East Down league. The first
fixtures are scheduled for Sunday 12th
November.
Last week’s lottery numbers were 8, 9,
10 and 14 – just for a change there were
no jackpot winners, but there were two
£10 winners.
We would like to draw your attention to a “Well Woman Clinic”
which will be held in the Burrendale
Hotel on Tuesday 7th at
7.00pm. This is a new initiative on the
part of the Ulster Council, in
partnership with the Ulster Cancer
Foundation, to promote good health among
its adult members and to guide people
towards a healthier lifestyle. The
evening will consist of general health
advice as well as practical tips to
prevent and detect cancer. [There is
likely to be a similar event for men in
February.]
The Ulster Council is holding a “Have A Go” evening in Newry
Leisure Centre on Friday 10th
November (7.30 – 8.30pm). This is one of
a series of similar events to try to
encourage those who aren’t normally
involved with our games to become
involved. So come along and “Have A Go”.
Contact Una McKay (07920 528793).
The next committee meeting will be on Monday 6th
November at 9.00pm.
We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Tony
Morgan. May he Rest in Peace.
