St John’s Notes
3rd April 2007
|
I’m back in the departure lounge again this week – this time
with the taking from the club’s lottery
jackpot. I wish! The jackpot was won
last week with £2,150 split three ways.
The numbers were 4, 10, 16 and 22. There
were five £10 winners as well.
I’d strive to be back for Easter Monday though as that is
Ladies Day at
St John’s.
At 3.00pm there is a challenge game
between our Ladies Footballers and … in
these politically correct times, we’ll
just call them the opposition. It will
be worth staying around afterwards for
an evening of craic with music by Divine
Harmony to round off the day.
The Ladies will prepare for that “challenge” with a challenge
away to Tullylish this evening
(Wednesday). Players should be at the
club at 6.00pm. Hopefully there will be
another challenge next Wednesday,
possibly at home to Aughlisnafin, before
the season starts on Saturday 14th
with a trip to Kilcoo.
Training has also been stepped up for the camogie team ahead
of the start of their Division Three
campaign. Training will be on Monday and
Wednesday evenings at 6.30 – all camogs
to attend. The camogie season starts on
2nd May with the visit of St
Peter’s from Warrenpoint.
Football training for the under-12s, under-10s and under-8s
will start this Friday (6th
April) at 5.00pm to 6.30pm.
Training generally has stepped up a notch as we approach the
start of the playing season. The seniors
travel to Aghaderg on Friday 13th
and are in action again when they
entertain Ballykinlar on Monday 16th.
The reserves start on Sunday 15th
when they host Ardglass. The minors go
into action in the All County League on
Wednesday 18th when they are
at home to Kilcoo. The evening before
(Tuesday 17th) the under-16s
travel to
St Paul’s
while the under-14s are at home to
Carryduff on Thursday 19th in
the East Down A League. The under-12s
travel to Loughinisland to play Go Games
on Sunday 15th and the
under-10s first Go Games blitz is
scheduled for Downpatrick on Saturday 21st.
Don’t forget the Scór Celebration evening in Clonduff on
Friday 20th. Last year we
hosted this event and it was a great
evening. This is an informal evening
aimed chiefly at those clubs who entered
Scór or Scór na nÓg this year but is
open to all. And admission is free.
The latest edition of our monthly bulletin is now on release
– if you haven’t received a copy contact
PRO Kevin McGlynn on 078 3596 0804. If
you wish to receive the bulletin for the
rest of the year fill in the
subscription slip on the back page and
return it with £5 to any committee
member.
A number of stools have strayed from the club – if anyone
sees them please shepherd them back in
our direction.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of
Martin McDonald at this time of tragedy.
May he Rest in Peace and his family be
comforted.
