St John's Notes 15th August 2007

Our camogie team won their final league game away to Newry Shamrocks last week (1-00 v 2-11). With seven wins out of eight we are guaranteed at least runners-up spot - not bad for a newly promoted team. They might even get a play-off but that possibility depends on the results of other matches. Our next outing is in the championship against the winners of last week’s opening round tie between Liatroim and Mayobridge. This game is now scheduled for Sunday 26th August, one week later than originally planned.

Our seniors were able to sit back and watch the other first round junior championship matches yesterday as we had a bye. We know that our quarter-final opponents will be Bright (who also got a bye). These games will probable be played towards the end of the month. We are at home to Aghaderg on Friday (17th) in our final league game.

Our reserves will be back in action on Sunday (19th) when they play Down Seniors in the championship. Postponed league games against Liatroim, Bryansford and Dundrum (all at home) and Castlewellan (away) may be rearranged.

Our Ladies Footballers have completed the scheduled league season with only outstanding games to be played – at home to Ardglass and away to Rostrevor and Teconnaught. The team are also looking forward to their championship.

Our minors’ home league game against Downpatrick was moved from last Wednesday to Monday past. We still have to travel to Downpatrick and Burren and entertain Bryansford.

Our under-16s were beaten by St Joseph’s in Dundrum last week. We were at home to Saul yesterday (Tue 14th) and travel to Darragh Cross next week. That leaves a home game against Kilclief to come.

Our under-14s had a bye last week and are at home to Bryansford this Thursday (16th). Congratulations to Ryan Gordon, Darren Burns, Martin Keenan and Hugh Flanagan who have been selected for the under-14 school of excellence.

The scheduled under-12 Go Games season ended with a bye on Sunday for our under-12s, but their season may be far from over. The games against Drumaness, home and away, and away to Darragh Cross were all postponed for one reason or another but hopefully the fixtures will be played at some stage.

Our under-10s are still working hard ahead of their next Go Games Blitz in September. This will be hosted by St John’s.

The Cúl Camp commences next week, from 20th to 24th. Please don’t delay in getting your application to Caroline McKay or Kevin McGlynn.

There were four £10 winners in last week’s lottery when the numbers were 7, 10, 11 and 25. The jackpot stands at £1,950.

Don’t forget to collect your plates and pots from the successful Guest Tea last month.

The next management committee is on Monday 20th at 9.00pm. At the last meeting we agreed wholeheartedly to send a letter of support to Darren Graham of Lisnaskea Emmetts.

We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Jackie Mooney on their recent bereavement.
