St John’s
Notes 20th June 2007
|
We were represented at Clones on Sunday
– and not just by the Tyrone-men in the
stands. Glenn McGrath played for
Ulster against Down in the half-time
special needs game and Gerard McAnulty
is joint manager of this team.
Our camogie team travelled to Portaferry
last Wednesday but came home empty
handed as the Ardswomen inflicted the
first defeat of the season. We were in
action again on Monday when we travelled
to Liatroim and will be at home to
Darragh Cross next Monday 25th (20th)
Our Ladies Footballers ended a poor run
when they entertained
St Paul’s
on Saturday week ago and won with
something to spare. Their scheduled game
away to Teconnaught on Saturday past was
postponed as the county team were in
action. We are away again this Saturday
(23rd) to St Michael’s before
returning to entertain Ardglass on
Saturday 30th.
Our seniors had a bye last Friday and
travel to Aghaderg on Thursday. We are
away to Ballykinlar next Friday.
Our minors travel to Kilcoo this evening
(Wednesday) and are at home to
Castlewellan next Wednesday.
Our under-16s were at home to Darragh
Cross last Tuesday and won comfortably.
They entertained
St Paul’s yesterday; the Holywood boys
will be getting to know the road well as
they are back next Tuesday for a
championship tie.
Our under-14s away fixture with Kilcoo
was a victim of the floods last week. –
that game would have completed the first
half of league fixtures. We travel to
Castlewellan in the A championship
tomorrow. We will be competing in the An
Riocht tournament on Saturday 23rd,
and are back in league action next
Thursday (28th) when we are
away to Carryduff A.
Our under-12s had a busy weekend with
six games at the An Riocht tournament on
Saturday before entertaining
Loughinisland on Sunday. We got as far
as the Quarter-final stage at An Riocht
before Liatroim put a stop to our march.
On the way we had wins over Ballymartin
(2-01 v 1-03), Clonduff (3-01 v 1-06)
and Kilcoo (2-01 v 0-03) but also lost
to Burren (1-01 v 3-03) and Rostrevor
(1-02 v 1-03) in the groups stages, so
that we won as many as we lost. That was
a great performance considering that we
had a poor turnout of some of the older
players. Next Sunday we away to
Teconnaught
Our under-10s are back in action this
Saturday when they travel to Ardglass
for the next Go Games Blitz. When they
come up against hosts Ardglass, Kilclief
and Loughinisland they will be hoping to
produce better performances that they
achieved in An Riocht a couple of weeks
ago.
Someone left an adult size Meath shirt
at the club last week. Contact Pep
Keenan (028 4377 8712) if you want it
back. Also someone’s mobile phone has
gone went missing, possibly at the club
in the last fortnight – should anyone
come across it please give it to Pep or
any committee member. Pep also has a new
supply of
St John’s
jackets in stock and is expecting a
delivery of rain-jackets and rugby
shirts on Friday.
There was only one £10 winner in last
week’s lottery when the numbers were 12,
15, 24 and 2. The jackpot now stands at
£1,550.
Our festival will be on over the weekend
of 13th to 16th
July, when there will be something for
everyone – more details next week.
We will be hosting a Cúl Camp from 20th
to 24th August.
